Phoebe Avison
Horrormantasy writer and author
Phoebe Avison is the author of These Monstrous Parts We Play, described as Squid Game meets The Serpent and the Wings of Night.
Growing up, Phoebe inhaled R. L. Stine’s Goosebumps series and was often found watching Are You Afraid of the Dark? despite the frequent nightmares they caused. When she wasn't forcing her imagined elaborate fantasy games upon her long-suffering friends, Phoebe was writing new worlds, sinking an obscene amount of time into video games and making home movies. After graduating with a degree in Fashion Journalism from the University of Creative Arts in Epsom, Phoebe worked as a freelance journalist while honing her fiction writing craft. Her career took a back seat for a few years when she became a carer for her autistic son, but during nap times and the darkest parts of the night, Phoebe kept writing stories. It came as no surprise when she too was diagnosed with autism and ADHD in her mid-thirties. Phoebe aims to write stories that feature autistic and ADHD characters, while also leaving her signature magic and macabre mark.
Phoebe's current horrormantasy novel, These Monstrous Parts We Play, is inspired by her childhood spent on the stage, thanks to her dance teacher mother, plus her obsession with any and all adrenaline-fuelled games, from The Hunger Games, to Squid Game and even edge-of-your-seat reality shows – the more betrayals and twists, the better. She’s waiting patiently in the wings for her debut to terrify and delight readers.
